Stout-hearted travelers have been trekking north to Vermilion Dam Lodge in search of monstrous muskies since Clarence Everett purchased the resort buildings in 1912 from the Graff Mineral Company. It wasn’t until 1921 that Clarence’s brother-in-law, Lloyd, was able to actually buy the land the buildings were sitting on.

Today the resort is owned by good friends Ed Tausk and George Wronowski, both avid musky hunters. And, though the resort may have a few more creature comforts than it did back in the day, many visitors still come to catch the big one. Vermilion Dam is (appropriately enough) on the famous Lake Vermilion, one of the elite musky lakes in the world. Many experts predict that it may well produce the next world record.

Though it’s known as a musky destination, Vermilion Dam Lodge is also popular for hunting, snowmobiling, golfing, weddings, and retreats.
