West Central and Southern Minnesota Resorts

map_westsouthernWhile most people associate the Northwoods of Minnesota with resort country, there are a surprising number of resorts flourishing in the southern half of the state.

Yes, they've got better proximity to the Twin Cities, but the reasons for their success are much more than that.

The southern river bluff country is scenic and quaint in the best sense of the word, while the band of resort country a couple hours north and west of the metro has abundant recreational opportunities, great fishing, and some posh resorts.

West Central Minnesota

You don't have to log 300 miles out of the metro to get to a great lake and an excellent vacation. Dickerson's Lake Florida Resort is one prime example. A 674 acre lake with excellent water clarity that's managed for walleye, northern, largemouth bass, crappies, and bluegills, Lake Florida has been offering excellent fishing for generations.

Bugbee Hive, on Lake Koronis near Paynesville, has focused less on fishermen and more on the multi-faceted vacationer. If you're looking for a little more pampered and less mosquito'd experience, it's a great choice.

Riverside Resort is actually on Cedar Island Lake. Offering great fishing, it also offers a well rounded vacation experience, and has some of the richest history you'll find anywhere.

Southern Minnesota Resorts

Cedar Valley Resort is located near Lanesboro, MinnesotaLanesboro, Minnesota, the Bed and Breakfast Capital of Minnesota, also named one of the "prettiest towns in America" by Forbes Traveler. Guests enjoy all manner of outdoor activities including caving, hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, skiing, and birdwatching.

Veteran's Landing and The Miller-Armstrong Building in WasecaWaseca are both historically significant properties tastefully restored. Veteran's Landing gives the true cabin experience, where The Miller-Armstrong Building offers gorgeous rooms with king beds, fireplaces, and a Jacuzzi tub.
